About Me

My name is Ben There. I have a last name (Wallenborn) but no one can pronounce, spell or remember it. I grew up mainly in Colorado but moved to Memphis to go to school at Memphis College of Art. I started tattooing in 1992 and the next year I started working at Underground Art. I graduated MCA with a BFA in '93. I worked at Underground until '96 then went to Aspen and opened my own shop, Mammoth Arts. I closed my shop there in 2000 and traveled the world doing guest spots in many shops including Slave to the Needle where I first worked in 2001. I have also worked at the Tattoo Room in Granada Hills CA, No Regrets in Arizona, Tinta Cantina in Albuquerque NM, Dragon Moon in Glen Burnie MD and Aces in Reno NV. I have also plied my craft in Europe and Hawaii, always returning to Slave to the Needle where I have acquired a permanent guest spot. So you can probably find me here sometimes, usually, maybe.
I am adept at most types of imagery but prefer doing big Asian style stuff, big bold color stuff, big animals and birds, big-big stuff, and more big stuff. But I also like doing little stuff.
I take great pride in doing cover ups 'cuz nothing sucks more then having crappy tattoos, and I enjoy the puzzle-solving element of making old tattoos disappear. I don't do portraits nor do I tattoo on fingers, toes, faces or necks. So There you have it, me in a nutshell. If you’re interested in getting some work from me come on down and get it (when I'm here!).
See you soon,
Ben There
