I hadn't considered a background actually I'm working on another drawing from the same set of pictures at the minute so I'll make sure to include a background on that one and see what sort of a difference it makes!

what are you working in? If you use pastels, you can use paper that isn't white to start with to elliminate the need for a background... if you are using pencils, go for really thick heavy paper and you can either give it a watercolour wash background... or whack a load of soft pencil in the background and wash over it with a wet paintbrush to soften it. ...negative space is soooooo much more important than people realise

I definitely agree about negative space, it can really make a difference between something looking finished or just rushed. Unfortunately it's something I seem to fail miserably at!
Thanks again for the advice!

The bottom jaw is way too wide, more detail is needed in the upper jaw where the teeth are connected to the bone area.
The rose is fine, more shading maybe? Try different grades of pencils too HB to 6B. Your on the right tracks so the more you draw, the better you will get, doodle to your hearts content and you will get results. | Thanks for the advice....I take it all on board!!

Hey everyone! This is my latest piece, It was mainly for me to practice doing portraits, that's why I chose a bit of a different angle to what I usually do, i.e straight on or profile. I also wanted to see if I could put a kind of modern colourful spin on Art Nouveau, and this is what I came up with. Would love to hear your thoughts! |

I like that, Jordan. Something about the mouth doesn't quite ring true for me. But otherwise I think it's good fun. Nice to see something different, too.

Thanks a lot Wes! Much appreciated. I'm glad people can see some kind of progression.
Cheers David, hopefully someone can shed some light on it for me. I got the spelling right though didn't I? |
