Default The right way to do it ?

I treated myself to a book yesterday (due to the nice offer in whs ) the book is " The Art of DISC WORLD " Paul Kidby it is full of some realy beautiful pictures . If i wanted to use one (or more ) for a tattoo who would I ask for permission ? the publisher or the artist or Terry pratchett ? the name "Disc World " is registered (it has one of those little r in a circle thingys) .I don't want to p!ss anybody off but I have been toying with the idea of a disc world tattoo for a while & would realy like to use some of the art work from this book as it catches the charictors so well !

I would say go to the artist via the publishers. That way you have covered two of the three in question. I have seen a Harley completely painted in Kirby's artwork Pretty awesome artwork.
It never hurts to ask.

Most publishers and artists I would think would be chuffed to think that someone likes the art that much.

Don't make out like you're prepared to pay for permision though.

Well Dysney are well known for trying to sue people who have tattoos of their trademarked characters on them.... so you never know.

How many Iron maiden covers have you seen tattoo'd on people, I don't think many ask for permission, so if you do, I'm sure it will be well recieved, if only for the novelty factor of telling their manager about it, to try to show they could try for a bigger book deal.

Ask permission - and if they say no - do it anyway

I have emailed a request , we'll see what happens now ! I already have a signed copy of "Nanny Oggs cook book " which my oldest got me for my 40th , so if he goes to another book signing I'll get him to ask the man himself if I get no joy from the publishers .

I have now emailed the publishers who put me in touch with Paul Kidby's (the artist) Agent , who has forwarded my request to him , they all seem pretty positive so I shall be takeing the art work with me for my appointment on the 8th to discuss it with Warwick , who thankfully is honest enough to tell me if he can't do it (so I shan't end up with another mess )
