Default United by Ink

Not that anyone here is likely to enter Discovery TV's "United by Ink" competition to win an iPod Touch for the "best tattoo", but...

By entering, you sign away rights in the supplied image of your tattoo "in perpetuity" all across "the universe". Just FYI, y'know.

That's ridiculous.

It means that they could sell your image for use in advertising by third parties.

The vanity of it astounds me. A custom tattoo is a the equivalent of a commissioned artwork. The fact that they think they have the right to intellectual ownership of an artwork that already belongs to at least two people (wearer and tattooer) and possibly three (photographer) simply because they assert that right through gaining a signature is incredible.

Check that small print before getting involved with the media!

In fact, I'd forgotten, but I believe that is also stipulated in the small print: that they can sell to third parties if they so desire.

Just think you could end up in an advert with Jodie Marsh!

That advert is pissing me off already.

Yeah, me too. Especially because it has people saying they were under 18 when they first got tattooed. I mean, I know some people do, but to put it out there in a trailer for a tattoo programme... Talk about sending the wrong message.
