Default calling all artists - Charity skull auction

I had a call this evening from my mum to tell me that the hospice that looked after my dad when he died is under threat of closure unless they can raise more funds... they've already had to close the day unit and family care part that has been helping my mum since my dad died

So here's my idea to raise money...

I would like as many artists as possible to paint a 3-D skull any which way you desire and then they will be auctioned on ebay with all proceeds going to the Woking Hospice

here's how it works:
(edited as the idea evolves!)
* I send you a skull, you paint and sign it then send it back, postage is minimal as they are super light, less than £2 which I will happily reimburse you.
* I list all the skulls on ebay (hourly) in one big skull-art auction event.
* You push your listing as much as you can, in your studio, to your clients, on facebook/myspace/the forum to get as many bids as possible.

It couldn't be more simple.

Each listing will have a starting price of £10 which covers the cost of the skull and a small initial donation to the hospice... everything else after that totally goes to the hospice... so please only get involved if you are willing to put the effort into drumming up interest in selling your skull to ensure I'm not left out of pocket.

I can easily get local newspaper coverage for this but I will be begging as many UK artists as possible to get involved and have also asked Stuart if he would be willing to run a small article in skin deep to encourage as much interest in the auctions as possible. I'm currently waiting to hear back from the place I bought my skull from to see if they can do me a bulk order deal and after I get a bit of feedback on whether people think this could be a goer I will formalise the details with a date and start the ball rolling.

so... waddaya think... anyone willing to help out? either by bidding on a painted skull or painting and pitching one?

This is the first skull I painted myself this week (which I sold before thinking of this)... I cut mine in half to frame it, but yours will be coming as a whole skull to embelish as you please.

having spoken to a few suppliers it looks like the date of this event will depend on delivery of stock as everywhere is sold out of skulls post-halloween celebrations and don't re-order from china till January!

A very lovely lady is ringing round her suppliers for me!

In the mean time can anyone think of a catchy title for this? understandably, the use of skulls in connection with the hospice is raising a few eyebrows so I will be pushing the whole "dia de los muertos" inspired element of the event with pretty sugar skulls as gifts to celebrate the lives of lost loved ones.

ideally I would have thought of this sooner and coincided it with the festival... and now the danger of the hospice closing is too great to wait till next year

'The Skull-duggery project'

Or is that too negative/down beat?

Just a thought.
