Music is a huge influence on mood and attitude. Whilst the natural reaction is to play morbid / dark stuff when you're feeling down I'd strongly suggest you build a far more upbeat playlist when you're in a good mood, then force yourself to listen to it when you're feeling low - especially if you don't want to.

In my opinion you have to refuse the temptation to feed depression and instead take positive steps to improve your mood. No one else can do that for you.

Thank you for the feedback and your points are definitely valid.

Hi, i just wanted to thank you for being so open with your journey with depression. I suffer from it as well, along with another mental illness and unfortunately spent some time in and out of hospital for it. I unfortunately damaged myself even more by being so quiet about my pain growing up. I believe that being open about your own struggles is a big part in recovery. I do some campaign work through Mind and other charities, and because of my own experiences I decided I wanted to help others and am now almost halfway through becoming a qualified therapist. I'm still reading through your entries but I just wanting to wish you well. I myself am still struggling but i'm no where near as bad as I was a year ago. I wish you all the best

I was diagnosed with depression a few years back now. "Coming out" was the best thing I could do. I realised there were so many others that were in the same boat and to embarrassed or ashamed to admit it.
