Default Tattoo a dead person?????

Ok I need some help here please. ( I am making other enquiries but figure someone here might know)
I have been asked by a mortuary if I would tattoo a dead man. The family have asked for all the childrens initials to be tattooed on him. I have no problem with the fact that he's dead. I do have a couple of other problems though.
He has no other tattoos.
Will I be breaking any laws? The mortuary wouldn't be registered for tattoos for a start and no-way I'm I carting him back to my place.
I haven't spoken to the family yet as I said I would make enquiries as to where I stand first so I don't really know why they want this done. It could be that he always meant to get it done when he was alive but never got around to it. I would feel more comfortable with it if that was the case.

Any thoughts? advice?

PS if any members of this mans family do happen to be a member of this forum and read this, I apologise in advance if it causes any further distress. As you will appreciate I need to know I am not doing anything illegal.

I think you just hit the nail on the head. I was sort of concentrating on the legal aspect but all the time there was that niggling feeling of 'is it what the guy would have wanted?'. My first question to the mortuary was 'does he have other tattoos?' If he had lots of tattoos then I could have believed that he wanted it done but ran out of time. As it is now, I feel like maybe just the family want it done. My concience tells me that if it was his dying wish to have it done, then, if it was legally acceptable, I would be prepared to do it. As it is, I would feel like I was abusing him.

Well if you want to check if it was his dying wish then ask to speak to the people who took care of him before he passed to see if he mentioned anything to them. In all honesty it seems a little strange to me that they want it done on him when i would have thought that if he wanted it then he would have already gotten it. This said, if this person did not get the chance to have the tattoo done then that's fair enough.

But i will say this, be prepared for some fun nightmares in the comin weeks if you do. I've seen a few dead bodys over the past few years and as much as i dont mind that side of it...it's the mares that you get and the repeating visuals of thier empty eye's.
