From what I've seen in the shop, the bigger and harder the guys try to act the worse they are at taking the pain.
I've see guys who've been in the army for 15 years wincing and crying at getting their arms done then 18 year old girls not even flinching whilst getting rib pieces.
Personally I just accept its gonna hurt and there's nothing I can do about it and it makes for a much less traumatic experience

I am too facinated by the process and studio goings on to concentrate on anything else - but if your first tattoo involves a longer sitting it may help take your mind of it.

The fascination kind of wears off after a while. And despite getting on really well, conversation with my tattoo artist does run out too. So I usually stick a film on my ipod to watch if I know I'm gonna be there for a few hours or more.

I've been getting tattooed for almost 18 years, and the fascination with the environment hasn't worn off for me yet! I actually think, rightly or wrongly, it's quite rude to sit watching a film or listening to an iPod during a tattoo session. But maybe I'm funny like that.

I'm the same. I would find it a bit ignorant to listen to my iPod, so instead i talk the artists to death

We have one guy who Roy tattoos who is like that and sits on his phone playing games and watching stuff. Its actaully a pain in the arse for him, as he isnt responsive or aware of what is happening, so is like a lead weight to move around when trying to get to different areas.

I don't think I'm being rude. I hope not. I know my tattoo artist pretty well, and it's not like I go in and switch on my ipod, get tattood, then leave. I talk to her for an hour or two, then tell her that I'm going to watch a film (for me, it really does distract me from the pain and she knows that), then I finish and talk to her for a bit more. Helps pass the time and pain a bit quicker, and I'm fairly sure she understands.
