Default Jason Cowley in the Evening Standard

Thought I'd share this with you guys in the hope that some of you might share my disgust.

This is an article in the SPORTS section of the Evening Standard (a free London "news"paper):

NOW BECKS THINKS HE'S THE MESSIAH
With the exception of Tiger Woods, David Beckham is the world's most recognised and celebrated sportsman. He is also increasinhgly one of the most bizzare, as I have said before. It must be a terrible burden to live as he does, in such a condition of acute self-watchfulness.
The man is a true victim of fashion - and of fashion's absurd addiction to ostentatious display and novelty: the next look, the latest haircut. Long ago Beckham turned his smooth, toned, hairless body into a canvas on which assorted tattooists could practise their inky craft. But is fondness for tattoos is becoming more than simply a harmless distraction; it's a kind of sickness, an outer reflection, perhaps, of his inner-conflict and confusion.
A look at me plea! A cry for attention from a man approaching the end of his career!
His latest stunt is to have scarred into his lower torso a representation of a bearded and haloed jesus, from the painting The Man of Sorrows by Matthew R Brooks - and then show it off whenever he can.
Beckham is obviously a narcissist. Now he seems to be developing a Messiah complex as well.
If he does not resemble one already, he is fast becoming a kind of fairground grotesque, with the body of a Thomas Harris villain. How many more tattoos can his body take? At least his face remains clean, for now.

What a load of misinformed and ignorant tripe.

I'm suprised that they haven't suggested that he's going to get a crown of thorns tattooed on his head next! Ignorant twats!

I dunno. Maybe the guys got a point. Beckham is a massive dobber.

Although I'll agree that its a strange thing to put in the sports pages. "opinion" surely?

I try not to let shit like this get to me anymore. Just recently I was at a dinner party where a group of them were discussing how people only get tattoos if they are completely in love with themselves. I just sat there and minded my own business.

Can I ask a serious question here.

Why do so many people have it in for david beckham?

He's a successful sports star who's represented his country. He doesn't go out clubbing, getting pissed and fighting like some of the other top players. He's happily married with children & although I've never met him, from the outside he seems like a decent bloke.

He's worn a few daft clothes but I'm guessing most people on here have worn daft clothes at some point or other. As for his voice, Mike Tyson has a dafter voice but nobody takes the piss out of him.
