Default Help for skin reaction?

I just started work on an arm sleeve last week, and I'm having a terrible reaction to the new tattoo. I'd say it was an allergic reaction, except all of my old ink is just fine... the tattoo is all black ink, nothing I'd expect to cause an allergy, but I have raised itchy skin under a good portion of the new line work, and an outbreak of itchy bumps and red skin in a portion of my arm between lines. Strangely, not all of the new tattoo is effected either - but most of it is. Any insight as to how this happened, and advice about what to do?

Are you able to post a picture? It could be a number of things, what cream are you using to look after it?

No, unfortunately I can't post a pic...but I can google "rash" and find something that looks similar.

It's a bit like this:

No scabbing or anything, just raised, red, itchy skin. I've been using savlon on it...the tattoo before this one, the studio told me it would work just fine for aftercare.

I don't think Savlon is a good idea for aftercare. I always use Bepanthen and i'm sure others will have other products to recommend.

Savlon is going to be pretty harsh for a new tattoo I would have thought?

Yeah...Savlon is a VERY bad product for aftercare, switch to Bepanthen immediately and see if symptoms persist.

I healed mine with Savlon (as recommended by the studio,) had no problems at all.
Not to say that you're not reacting to it of course...

There are so many different suggestions, it's crazy how some people tell you one thing is terrible and others swear by it. I guess you should always listen to the artist and go back to them if there are any problems!

Thanks for the replies. I'll try switching products and see if that helps.

The rash is a reaction to either the ink or the stuff your putting on it, nothing you can do about the ink now so if it was me i would put nothing on it and just keep it clean. Let your body do its stuff by itself.

If the rash doesn't improve I would go and see your GP, it maybe some kind allergic reaction that has got infected.
