Default First tattoo. Where???

Hi all. New to this forum, want opinions, I have lots of questions!

I really really really want a tattoo.
I have decided to get my daughters name, Sienna.
I want it roughly 6-9cm in length. 4cm high, depending on font.

I am still undecided on where to get it? I like the idea of my chest, on one side. so its under a shirt, but visible through a singlet. I want somewhere I can see it, eg not on my back.

How painful is a wrist tattoo?

I have a high pain tolerance, so I think I should be okay getting it done.

Only you can decide on the placement. I didn't find my wrist particularly painful and its not known as a sensitive spot.

If you want it covered most of the time and you want it somewhere you can see then that narrows it down quite a bit.

Have a doodle on yourself. Don't worry about making it a work of art or anything, just so you can experiment with different placements. If you're getting something small then it can be a really good way of helping you decide. Ultimately though it is up to you. It's not on our bodies so we shouldn't be deciding.

Thanks for the advice, and yes, I have to make the decision myself. Just hard to choose.

Something that's going to be on you forever shouldn't be a snap decision. Take your time

At the moment I only have the one, a big phoenix leg piece which covers my left lower leg from knee to ankle and wraps round. I'd been planning it for over a year before finally taking the plunge.

I only started getting tattooed a year ago myself. I had a stack of ideas (and still do) but wanted to give it thinking time. Trust me, I know the excitement of wanting to get inked but it's such a good feeling going for it when you've thought it through for a few months. It's nice to be sure about something so permanent. Remember, you'll have forever to enjoy it so there's no rush.

Good luck

I like what Will said about trying different spots by drawing on yourself with a pen.

The wrist really depends on your pain tolerance. Some say it is very painful, some say it isn't. The wrist would be a good location, but you won't be able to hide it very easily in the summer unless you plan to wear long sleeved shirts or a watch or bracelet or something.

You could also try your ankle or your feet. But do know that these are also often considered some of the more painful spots.

All of these, plus the chest area, would look great, I think. You could also have it done on the side of your body. You can still see it and it is easier to hide on a daily basis. It can be on the ribs like someone else suggested or a lower (which would also make it easier for you to see).

I have 2 wrist tattoos and neither of them hurt at all.

Especially compared with the pain of a rib tattoo, or foot tattoo.
