Default Facial Tattoo Questions

I have gotten only one tattoo in my life and it's a small wrist tattoo...just to get my feet wet and see if I liked tattooing. Now I'm hooked and want several more tattoos, including a full face tattoo. My idea for the face tattoo is that it will look kind of like a cross between sugar skull and rag doll...it's hard to explain, but I'm sure you get the picture when I say sugar skull. I haven't seen many people with this tattoo (it's common to do it as makeup or a small tattoo, but not as a tattoo on the whole face), so I think it will be a unique piece of body art.

Other tattoo ideas have come and gone, but this sugar skull/rag doll face tattoo is one that I really want.

But I do have some concerns about it. Mainly:

My boyfriend isn't too fond of tattoos, especially heavy tattooing. He thinks tattoo sleeves make people look like "trash" (I don't, I love tattoo sleeves). But I really want to eventually get this tattoo. How can I ease him into the idea of me having a full face tattoo? I know he will be very opposed to it.

Secondly, I live in a very small town currently...I have the feeling that I will be stared at a lot of I get such a tattoo. I have lived in big cities like Chicago and NYC where no one would bat an eyelash at elaborate tattooing, but here they probably will. Is staring something that really happens to people with face tattoos, or should I just wear the airbrush tattoo cover stuff when I go out if I don't want to be bothered?

And lastly, jobs...if you have a job that's "behind the scenes" and you don't interact with customers at all, will it be okay if you get such a tattoo? Or will I have to wear tattoo cover every day to work?

And on a scale of one to ten, how much does a tattoo on the face (specifically around the eyes, on the cheeks, on the nose, and on the mouth) hurt? I'll still get the tattoo even if it's a ten, I'm just curious.

Either you're taking the piss or you haven't thought this through. Everything about this is a terrible idea. Please, stop, before you do something you'll really regret.

Could you elaborate? I've seen some good biomech face tattoos. Face tattoos can come out very well if they're well-planned, the artist is skilled, etc. Of course I'd regret it if it came out horrid, but if it came out well, I may like it. I've been playing with the idea for a while now. Face tattooing isn't anything new, it's been done thousands of times before. But it is true that I have no idea what life would be like with such a tattoo...which is why I'm asking.

I'll probably convince my boyfriend to eventually move to a bigger city, so the small town staring thing doesn't matter as much.

I want to get it, but I'm in no hurry.

Ive never seen a good face tattoo, that's reason one. Two as said you've got one small wrist tattoo and you want one on your face, think you're making a monumental leap before you're ready. Thirdly there will be nowhere you go people wont stare at you, also getting a job will be next to.impossible. Neck or hands are difficult enough but face? Very difficult for people to see past that.

A lot of people still see neck and hand tattoos as for criminals, face tattoos are seen as being worse.

You'll be lucky if you can find an artist willing to do that on someone who's only got a little wrist tattoo.

All good points.

I've always wondered why people with neck/hand/face tattoos don't just use cream or airbrush tattoo cover when it comes to jobs though...it seems like such a simple solution. But, I do have to think of whether I want to be dependent on tattoo cover makeup for the rest of my life.

A humorous but probably true take on what it's like to have a facial tattoo: I Had a Face Tattoo for a Week | VICE | United States

...Yeah, I have to think about it more, LOL.
