Arran Burton is £120 an hour but insanely fast. He can line a full sleeve and chest in around 5-6 hours, so factor that into your thinking buddy.... I think Joe Carpenter is around £750 a day

No, he isn't, not anymore. I paid £700 per day when he was at Cloak and Dagger in London.

I think heís raised his rate over £500 but others will be able to advise to how much exactly. Tattoo prices have gone up a bit in the last few years. For £500 or under youíre going to be looking for a wily veteran, a hidden gem or someone in a smaller, less fashionable town or city, most likely North of London. The Dris Donnelly (£450) or Jordan Croke (£500) of the Japanese tattoo scene.

My last few rolls of the dice. How about Jamie Greaves? He works at Real Art with Oddboy:

I know you werenít keen on Ash I but heís £400 or so. Ash works with Dave Swambo so he might not be too much more:

And if you like big bold lines, Sam Boyce in Salisbury. Iíve seen a tonne of his healed work and itís tremendous.

joe carpenter and elliot wells aren’t going to cost a lot more than the budget though, stretch the budget and make t work. it may take awhile longer to complete but you 100% get what you want so why not. elliot and joe are both fairly quick too.

I think you can bring this in on budget. I saw two artists talking about customers paying thousands for big names and the best tattoos they see are often by lesser known artists. Maybe just locally known, or they arenít working their social media platforms quite so well. Sometimes youíre paying for the name rather than the quality of the work. The difference between £500 and £750 is pretty sizeable, and itís not like £500 is chump change anyway.

Good point about the speed though, definitely needs to be considered. If a guy charges £700 but works twice as fast as someone whoís £400 youíre still saving money overall. Another thing might be how many hours they consider to be a day, some artists do 4 or 5 and thatís it, others will do a lot more.

good point, but in this case joe and elliot are both known for amazing work. if thatís what he wants, thatís what he should save up for. this isnít to say there arenít hidden gems out there or amazing local artist.

also when u factor in something like speed when it comes to chris crooks, he completes a sleeve in half the time someone else would take, so unless youíre paying 50% more per hour, i do think these artist are worth considering even if they are slightly out of your budget.
