Tattoo conventions. They are a celebration of all things connected with tattoos and body adornment. Where the show goer will have access to the world’s best tattoo artists with the chance of obtaining a piece of living tattoo art etched into your skin from an artist that you might not otherwise have access to due to geographical reasons. They are a place where you can meet many like-minded people, all with a passion for skin art. You can kit yourself out with a new outfit, buy that extra special piece of body jewellery and watch a suspension or fakir show. They really are a good indication that tattoos and tattooing is as strong as it has ever been and is constantly improving its image within ‘normal’ society.
The convention scene in this country is stronger than it has ever with thirteen or so shows already held in the UK. This must be an indication that the tattoo scene is very healthy and with so many shows dotted up and down the country it gives virtually everybody access to at least one show within travelling distance.
The problem for us is trying to attend all the shows to bring you the usual top quality of coverage from these events and to balance that event coverage with other non-show articles in the magazine.
We will always try to have at least one Skin Deep member of staff/photographer at each British tattoo convention but the logistics of taking the merchandise stand to each and every show is pretty difficult so we have to pick and choose which one’s the SD stand will attend. It takes two people to man the stand, in addition to the photographer and unfortunately there aren’t always people available to work over the weekend, so if you don’t see the stand, rest assured we are there with a photo studio waiting to take photos of your tattoos and to chew the fat, so come and find us – we won’t bite.
So if you want us to come to your tattoo convention and bring the Skin Deep Merchandise stand, please give us a ring with plenty of advance notice and we will do our best to attend.
Skin Deep this month brings you a great world-wide mix of tattoos from the far corners of the globe with events from as far a field as South Africa, Amsterdam, Wales and Derby, interviews with some top-class exponents of the tattoo machine as well as some avid ink collectors.
If you like bikes and tattoos then you are in for a treat this issue as we have included a FREE sixteen page full colour supplement documenting the correlation between motorcycles and tattoos. I hope you enjoy it.
