Demanda Lavette

From her old school ink to her ‘65 Chevy, this 25 year-old beauty from the Deep South is a one-of-a-kind. When Demanda Lavette isn’t getting all dolled up for her fans, this self proclaimed “tomboy” spends much of her time getting dirty…but not the way you might think. Demanda describes herself as “Sugar and Spice” and after working with her I had to agree. This badass pin-up girl has a heart of gold and a smile to match! So, of course I wanted to find out just what makes her tick.

Tell the Skin Deep readers what you’re all about.
Pin-up modelling and Pit bulls are two of my passions! I love good ol' rock ‘n’ roll, movies, make-up, burlesque, motorcycles, and old hot-rods. I just got my first fixer upper. She's a ‘65 Chevy, 305 out of an ‘85 Chevelle, 3 on the tree.  She's gonna be beautiful!

Take our readers through a typical day in the life of Demanda Lavette?
Wake up, walk my Pit bull (Kelsey), then start my workday. I'm always working. I'm not complaining - I love my job. It’s a lot of fun; I basically get to play dress-up everyday. Then when work’s over I come home and relax. I love being at home. I hardly ever get to just chill at the house. When I'm not working I try to spend most of my time with my friends.

I’ve heard you describe yourself as a tomboy. I have to say… I don’t see it. Tell us about that.
Haha, yes I am. A very prissy one though. I love playin’ in the dirt & getting greasy. I love the outdoors, fishing, camping, riding dirt bikes, getting dirty on the farm, etc. I like working on my own car with a cold beer and good music in the background. Hopefully, pretty soon I will be building my own bike. I'm sure I will need a lil’ help from the boys at first, but by the time I get to the second one it will be all me. I like hard work; it makes you feel good when you accomplish things.

How many tattoos do you have right now? Which one would you say is your favourite?
Oh, God, I have no clue anymore. I lost count a long time ago. A lot of my pieces are pretty big, and some just blend together. It’s hard to say what my favourite is. I love them all so much. Usually, my newest piece grabs my heart as the favourite for the moment.
Perhaps the most noticeable tattoo is the one that says family. Tell us about the significance of that tat.
Ah, the family. Yeah that one usually gets the most attention. Family and friends are very important to me. My friends are my family. I like it on my throat because I always see it. It reminds me of what truly matters in my life.

Do you have or would you ever get a significant other’s name tattooed on your body?
Oh no, no, and no. Did I say no? Just making sure. That's not for me. I have never seen any good come from that.

If you had to tattoo a message on your forehead what would it be?
There are many things I have said that should be stamped on my forehead. Some I probably can’t mention in this interview. “Sucker” would work; I always seem to fall into some situation that the word sucker would cover pretty well.

Is there any ink on your body you regret getting?
Nope. I love all my tattoos.

Which one was your first and what was the inspiration behind that tattoo?
Stars on my wrist and forearm. A long time ago, one of my best friends and I were drawing on our arms and he put stars on me. I liked it so I got them as a tattoo. Then it was all downhill from there.

Do you have an artist that you prefer to work with or do you jump around to different artists?
I get most of my work done at Liberty Tattoo in Atlanta, Georgia. Chris Howell has done most of it. Shay Cannon has done a good bit too. I have to say they are my favourites.

If you were going to describe your style of tattoos, what would you say?
Traditional all the way. I love the old stuff, Sailor Jerry style.

What would you say your greatest accomplishment is?
Overcoming negativity and loving life. I live every day to the fullest.

What are your goals? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
To make a name for myself in the tattoo/pin-up modelling industry. Hum, five years? Not too sure just yet. That’s not that far away. Maybe in ten years I would like to settle down with a greasy, dirty, tattooed man (the dirtier the better) and have a couple of lil’ monsters of my own.

Have you ever been to England? Would you like to visit? What do you think you would do there?
No I have not. I would love to visit. I would probably do everything I could do in the time I was there. I would get into some trouble, I'm sure!

Do you find that you get a lot of attention from other people because of your tattoos? What’s their reaction?
Yes and no. Some people love them, and some people just do not understand at all. To each their own. My favourite question is "What are you gonna do when your older?" Um, let’s see… the same things you are. Raise my children, retire, and raise my grandchildren. I'm just gonna be ten times cooler then you will ever be. Ha ha!

So… I hear you like old movies. What’s your favourite?
Two Lane Black Top, and of course, Breakfast at Tiffany's (Come on, I am a girl!)

Are you involved with any causes or charity work?
I adopted a white lion cub in South Africa, Jodeka. She's so sweet. My lil' man eater. Basically, I am making sure she has a happy and healthy life on a reserve in the wild.

I’ve heard about Pin-ups for Pit bulls. What are they all about?
Well, we are a group of pin-ups who find homes for unwanted Pit bulls. We also set up fundraisers and rescues, as well as spread awareness about Pit bulls and other bully breeds. They have such an undeserved reputation…hopefully, one day we can change that. Check out our site at

Anything you would like to say to the readers across the pond?
Put some pork on yer' fork. Ha,ha,ha!

Who’s your hero?

How would you sum up Demanda Lavette in a couple of lines?
Sugar-n-spice baby doll. I don't have an ego; I just love how awesome I am! HSFM!
