Default Drawing class 101 - The Apple

I had an idea (It doesn't happen often)

Seems a lot of people on here at the moment are trying to improve their artistic skills, weather with a view to getting an apprenticeship or just for personal pleasure. So I thought it would be good to set everyone interested a challenge.

To draw an apple, In pencil. Thats it. nothing fancy, it will test your observational skills, basic ability, drawing texture and the use of light.

We have one week to do it so you have till the end of the day on the 13th.

Its not a competition, its an art lesson, no one is going to be the best, but hopefully at the end of it, those more experienced artists among us will be able to provide feedback to each person who takes part, of what there strengths and weaknesses are, and general feedback.

How does that sound, who's up for it?

I'm up for it, I think it's a really good idea! Are we shading, just doing outlines, using normal pencils/coloured pencils..?

Shading, whole kaboodle, a realistic apple using just pencils. Nigel being the black and grey shade man around here would be good to pass critique on them after if he is up for it.

The challenge with doing it in grey shade will be to make it look like more than a grey ball.

Okey doke, it sounds like it'd be a great idea! I'm definitely in but probably won't be posting anything until the end of the week due to exams. I'm quite excited

Can I just suggest for it to be most useful, the drawing should be done from a real ACTUAL apple, in front of you, not copying a picture of an apple you've found on the net, or even worse, someone else's drawing of an apple.

I need to go buy an apple. Why couldn't you have chosen oranges? I've got two of them!

Awesome idea... im willing to give it a go. Should make it a regular thing, because i need pushing into practice more, and setting tasks or lessons as you say helps me to get my ass into gear. I actually started a fruit bowl last week in charcoals funnily enough... but since then someone has ate all the apples, so il have to go and buy a nice fat one. Hmmmm, granny smith or golden delicious? lol. Should we just post them on here

I'm up for giving this a go. I'm not a great artist but I am trying to improve so this sort of thing should help to push me.
