I meant to say also that the reason why some people don't talk to me is because I tend not t smile in places I am not familiar with and i do look like I have swallowed a prissy stuck up wasp most of the time.

My children went to a small village school when I first moved to Cornwall, no one spoke to me, would get lots of odd looks, I found the best thing was just to smile at everyone, so they either thought I was friendly or mental
Never really spoke to anyone but eventually they started smiling back and some of the dads would stop for an hello.
Wasn't interested in making friends, just a hell of a lot more comfortable than jaw drops.

I am really sorry if this isnt a wind up but thats the 2 first posts from a couple and for reasons stated above I dont know why anyone would alienate themselves because they have some tattoos. Its the kids who make friends and the parents follow suit? Me I just chat to anyone regardless. Most of my friends at school were made through the nursery parent classes group and we socialised a few nights during the course. The hardcore of us still stick together. A friend is a friend is a friend

you should never judge a book by its cover, and just because other people have Tattoos etc does not mean they will have more in common, maybe you should give the 'normal' baby groups more of a chance, everyone with babies/kids goes through the same sort of thing so there is alot of common ground to be found.

So in summary, most people on this board are anti-social and introverted regardless of tattoos haha?

Cant say having tattoos has caused me any problems with mixing with people, If anything its a good starter of conversations. None of the other parents at my sons pre school treat me different, infact the teachers there always ask me things about mine and talk tattoos in general to me. When I went and had a tour round a very upmarket gym the other day, the woman who did the tour had no tattoos herself but said about a couple of women there with full sleeve and she knew the reputation of my boss.

I have found that a lot of people with no tattoos are very intersted in them, where as some people with loads of ink haven't got a clue, have no interest in the art work and just stamp collect or like the 'image' anyway.

Like Emma said having tattoos doesnt mean you would have anymore in common.

As the saying goes 'There's nowt so strange as folk' it's worth the effort just to smile or nod, but there again I'm not backwards at coming forwards, perhaps if you don't see yourselves as being different or imposing other people won't either.

the 'looks' are not always due to bad thoughts - people will look at ANYTHING that is different to themselves - the trick is to have enough self-belief and confidence that it doesnt effect you

and i agree with points made earlier - just because people have chosen to colour themselves in doesnt make you automatically alike - twats are twats with or without ink

good luck with finding friends - but i would just talk to people regardless, whatever they looking at - they may be more curious and interested than disgusted, and feeling the same way - wanting to talk to you

We have a lot of ladies who were the burkas around here and after talking to a few of them they look at us because they envy us to some extent. Not that they'd like tattoos but they'd like to be free enough to have tattoos if they choose to.
