I've seen some artists start out by shunning flash and imagining all their work will be custom, sadly the custom work is often ill-proportioned, uninspired and heavily drawn upon pre-existing flash....

Its really got less to do with machines than it has good solid art skills. somebody who has gone through an apprenticeship will still be no good if they cannot draw, and somebody with very strong art...
