Default Aftercare

I hear different people/artists saying different ways in which to care for your tattoo after it is done, which do you think is the best way for fast healing and get the best outcome for coloured tatts etc?

i personally think just remove the clingfilm after an hour and just soapy wash it in the shower like normal. Just let it naturally heal is the best way.

Some people say pile cream works really well? tattoo goo... a waste of money? Anything you should definately not do?

I'm not a tattooist but the advice that I go by is:

leave clingfilm on for about 12 hours (if you can), after that wash it in luke warm water (i don't put anything in the water as I have had a reaction before now), pat it dry and then apply bepanthen. After this the tattoo will be washed once a day and bep applied 3 times a day. Mine had pretty much healed up after a week with hardly any scabbing at all.

I was told that pile cream is now a big No No.

Until you develop the method that best works for you do whatever each individual artist asks you to do. they will understand, in general the best way their inks and methods heal. If you get 10 tattoos by ten different artist, follow each ones advice.
I know you guys are gonna jump on me and give me 500 different ways that you all do it but when these guys have 100's of tattoos on them they too will develop their own method.

Agreed

I did the bepanthen thing, 3 times a day maybe more if my clothes took some away.

and my tattoo is completely healed now.

the thing that i had a problem with was spots.
i always have to pop spots, but of course i couldnt as they were on/in my tattoo's lines.

One thing i've found helps quite a bit is when you wash the tattoo for the first time after you've taken the clingfilm off, use water as hot as you can possibly take without burning yourself. It stings quite a bit, but it really helps open up the pores and get all the horrible gunk out.
Then finish washing it with cold water after.

I heard that the hot water for the first wash was a good tip too.
Also read that some of the Yakuza used to go for saunas after being inked, never tried it though.

Is it not really smelly when you take it off?

The leakage is alarming.

If you're keeping it cling-filmed, try to change it at least three times a day. It does get very slimy if you leave it on for too long. Doesn't work for everyone, but I keep mine wrapped/bepped for at least 3-5 days, changing it in the morning, when I get home from work and before I go to bed.
