SOUTH WOODFORD: Tattooist talks ink as parlour prepares to open (From East London and West Essex Guardian Series)

Viper Studio will also be opening a “tattoo academy” for budding tattooists and body piercers to come in and learn the trade.

Mr Howells said: “People will be able to come in for a couple of weeks to learn the basics and then go away to get a certificate of competence.

“They can then go off and start tattooing.”

shouldn't that read "They can then go off and start scratching"

Yep, it's quite common for studios to fleece people like this - The Holey Skin chain in Brizzle does it... for something like £2500 you get a 2 week course where you get to tattoo and get handed a shiny certificate at the end of it, all under the watchful eye of a pro who's tattooed stars with incredible work like... Pete Doherty :cash:

wow! south woodford is where I'm from! Can't say it's the greatest place to open a shop though.

Tattoo and Body Piercing Courses at The UK Official Tattoo Academy

It's already up and running, you get a free "starter kit" as well including: tattoo machine, needles, grips, inks, gloves, practice skin etc.

The "Instructors" work is not actually as dire as one would expect, although in my opinion they need to learn how to line a piece properly before they start passing on their "knowledge" at a price.

Who is Jodie Marsh?

ohhhhhh you can leave a comment on the news article :-B

I forgot to mention, what particularly alarmed me about this was there was link to it from the front page of the main BBC news site. That's gonna be a lot of traffic.

redvelvet 09-02-2010 03:57 PM

That's scary. There is nothing 'official' about the place but the title will perhaps lead unsuspecting people to think there is.

not the first academy and not the last
Holey skin do one in west country somewhere, witchtattoos.co.uk offer it and there are loads more around the country cashing in on the popularity of tattooing
