Default lower back tattoo...pain?

I'm getting my first tattoo in a few months. I decided to go for a place where no one would see it, on my lower back. I'm getting a sugar skull with roses. I am curious to know about the level of pain though. Yes, all tattoos hurt. But how bad does it hurt getting a tattoo on the lower back? Also, since I know I will want more tattoos in the future, what are the most painful places, in your opinion, to get tattooed.

well, everyone's different, but it's been my most painful spot so far. However, your tattoo doesn't sound very big so you won't be in pain for long. My lower back was tattooed as part of a full back piece and that just seemed to go on and on.

I'm sure there is a thread in here where people talk about which they found the worst, for everyone it's different though.
Bad places from what I hear are ankles, foot, chest and ribs.

My lower back isn't a huge tattoo but it took about an hour and a half and I found it reasonable. Once you get in to it you get used to the pain I think fairly quickly. It did sting a bit directly on the spine though, or the edges towards my sides. It's probably best not to speculate too much beforehand! Sense of pain is definitely a very personal thing but a lot of people have lower back tattoos, you'll get through it fine I'm sure.

I'm in the process of having a back piece, the lower part is pretty much done. Some parts weren't too awful, but others were grim...I'm the worlds biggest baby when it comes to tattoos though!

If you are planning to have more tattoos, think carefully before you place one on your back, the time will come during your tattoo thought process, and the one that most of us consider the ultimate piece, is a full back piece and that one tattoo you have placed on your back is going to be really annoying.

I've come the conclusion that the pain is different for everyone. My best friend didn't mind getting his elbow ditch done whereas I detested it. He despised his wrist where as I fell asleep having mine done haha. I hated the middle of the chest but din't mind the sides whereas my other friend didn't mind the middle but hated the collarbones. etc.
