Behind Closed Doors - Piew Choquette

In keeping with our rummaging in the drawers for stockpiles of great art, here’s some after hours magic from our buddy, Piew Choquette, from Tatouage-Royal in Montreal – complete with colour commentary from the man himself.

Bonjour, je m’appelle Piew.

I’m a tattoo artist and a painter. I am most passionate about American traditional tattooing, though I collect and appreciate a wide variety of styles. I work at Tatouage-Royal in Montreal, Quebec. You can find me tattooing at many conventions in North America, and maybe over in Europe soon too.

When I’m not tattooing, my passion is painting. I spend seven to eight hours a week painting and working on traditional designs – though like everybody else, I’d like to dedicate more time to my personal art.

I prefer to work in acrylics; having worked with almost all mediums, I must say this one suits my style the best. I want to achieve a very realistic approach with my paintings, which is the opposite of my work as a tattooer. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work as a tattooer and a painter as it’s the best of both worlds! I’m looking forward to sharing with you, many traditional tattoos for fans of bold, black lines and solid colour work, as well as many more realistic paintings that I hope will help you appreciate how art and tattooing can live in harmony…
